African Fashion | Kente Cloth

Hello Divas & Gents,

I recently posted a photo on my Facebook page and Instagram which got so much love. I decided to do a more in-depth post on it so that my readers/viewers would be in tune with a taste of African fashion. Ghana recently celebrated their 58th Independence Day on the 6th of March, and I attended a local celebration here in Houston. In case you don't know, my mom is Ghanaian and my dad is Nigerian and almost all of my family lives overseas, most in London, England (UK). I have such a diverse family with so much rich background and culture! I have always been pretty private about it, but figured I'd start to share since so many show so much interest.

Kente cloth, also known as "woven cloth", is a traditional cloth local to Ghana, which was worn by royalty. It is hand woven and comes in variety of patterns, colors, and designs which mean different things. It is truly a beautiful sight to see. I wish I could insert pictures of all the various types I had seen that night, but I didn't get a chance to ask for permission.

Here are what some of the colors mean (as quoted in Wikipedia):
Meanings of the colors in Kente cloth:[3]
  • black—maturation, intensified spiritual energy
  • blue—peacefulness, harmony and love
  • green—vegetation, planting, harvesting, growth, spiritual renewal
  • gold—royalty, wealth, high status, glory, spiritual purity
  • grey—healing and cleansing rituals;
  • maroon—the color of mother earth; associated with healing
  • pink—assoc. with the female essence of life; a mild, gentle aspect of red
  • purple—assoc. with feminine aspects of life; usually worn by women
  • red—political and spiritual moods; bloodshed; sacrificial rites and death.
  • silver—serenity, purity, joy; assoc. with the moon
  • white—purification, sanctification rites and festive occasions
  • yellow—preciousness, royalty, wealth, fertility, beauty
Here is what I wore. I wasn't able to make it to my uncle's wedding in London this past July but all the women in the bridal party had on different styles of this particular type of Kente. I was happy that I was able to wear my custom made attire for this event. Let me know what you think! Hope you enjoy!

Spring Style| Peplum ft. Statement Piece Elements

Hello Divas & Gents!

This was supposed to be posted long ago (last Spring), but I had a few technical difficulties :) Most of you have probably already seen my YouTube video  (features lots of funny bloopers!) which pertains to this post, but I wanted to share a few pictures!

Spring is the best time to rock simple dresses, and pair them with bold accessories. I paired my dress with a multi-colored pearl necklace which I got a few years ago from It is quite a statement piece and is pretty weighty, but worth the look! I also paired it with my favorite bold pink Christian Siriano boyfriend blazer. I just can't get enough of PINK or THAT BLAZER!

What I'm Wearing:
  • Black/Grey Peplum Dress - Ross
  • Hot Pink Blazer - Designer Christian Siriano (Sam's Club)
  • Multicolored Pearl Necklace w/ Pendant -
  • Snakeskin Captoe Pumps - Life Stride (Ross)
  • Watch/Earrings - Random Places

Hope you enjoyed this post! Feel free to check out my YouTube video on this look if you want to see me modeling it. Thank you for reading, and I'd love your feedback!

Lookbook | The Red Skirt Diaries

Hello Divas & Gents!

I took another hiatus without realizing it, and I hope you are still here with me! Alot has gone on, but I will soon do another post or video when I can. I got a new laptop which I am enjoying, and will need to buy a new HD webcam/camera because I have sooo many reviews and videos that I need to catch up on. Well, enough of the chit chat. I decided to create a "red skirt" diaries lookbook since I found myself rocking this one particular bodycon skirt from Forever 21+ quite frequently. You can also see the progression of looks from July to December (most frequent). Let me know what you think!
